Within my Bachelor studies we had a group project where we should create a corporate design and a website for a project we could choose. As a group, we decided to work together with a customer that had a great vision: He wanted to enable every child to have access to books, regardless of their socioeconomic background. He thought of a website, where poor children could order their favorite book and get it sent home free of charge.
This meant we had to face a couple of difficulties: The website should target three different customer groups with very different backgrounds, motivations and goals. First of all, it should carter the needs of the children, that should be enabled to reading their favorite books. For them, the website needed to be creative, fun, very accessible and easy to use. Another target group are the parents of those children, that legally have to make the "purchase" even if it's free of charge, and have an interest in what their child is looking at on the internet. The third, and very important, target groups are adults that are interested in collaborating with or donating to "WuLiBu" to keep the vision alive.
To ensure the Usability of the website, a lot of User Tests were done together with children and families
In the end, we created a website which is split into a children's and an adult's area. Within the childrens area, all texts have a read-aloud-function, so that even early-readers canm use it. Little effects and a lot of interaction-possibilities increase the Joy of Use. Furthermore, a short marketing video was created, to reach potential interested parties.
